are going to see more of the fog in the coming days as things start to cool down a bit. it's still going to be hot in some spots inland today but those temperatures are starting to come down. no triple digits today. still, 94 in concord, 90 san jose, 71 in san francisco. more on that cooler weather in a moment, right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> let's check out the bay bridge toll plaza, where no surprise, at 4:31 a.m., this is what it looks like, quiet heading into san francisco. we have roadwork on the lower deck across the bay area coming up. back to you guys. >> thank you. 4:31. we begin with a search that continues this morning for seven northern california men still missing from a sunken fishing boat. >> many of them are from the bay area as we were talking about yesterday. that boat went down during a sudden storm early sunday morning in mexico's sea of cortez south of san felipe. kristy seifkin is live in our newsroom. i know you have been keeping

track of the search of the baja california coast. >> reporter: after the search yesterday they only found more debris by the end of the day but the good news is that we still have those warm conditions and those calm waters so still is hope that people are alive and surviving in those conditions. the identity of the one deceased passenger has been confirmed since yesterday, 65- year-old leslie yee a former employee of the "san francisco chronicle." this is his first fishing trip down to baja after nearly 37 years with the newspaper. >> initially he didn't want to go but a bunch of his friends from high school decided to g they go every year. and they would constantly bug him about going. and he never just could find the time to do so. but finally now that he is retired from the "chronicle" and he has all this free time he figured, why not? >> reporter: seven of the four

men still missing, russell bautista, don lee, albert mien, and others. the fishing trip was an annual family tradition for brian wong, still miss, and for his three brothers who survived. all the brothers were avid fishermen. a family friend says the three brothers won't leave baja until they find him. >> they might be on one of the islands. they could be in a daze so he can't find his way. so it's -- there is still hope that they can find him alive. >> now, cho says brian was a month away from retiring from the alameda county hr services department and his wife and family still cling to hope that he is alive. back to you. >> thank you, kristy seifkin. 35 men did survive the fishing boat sinking. the "chronicle" reports 17 of them were saved by people who

happened to be nearby onshore or in private boats. >> it was nice that we were able to help out fellow americans and give mexican nationals a little hope. tonight it came together to see the families and be reunited. >> the mexican navy rescued 18 survivors. we'll have more on cbssf.com. the gang-related shooting death of a baby is prompting a gathering this morning of law enforcement leaders from throughout the bay area. 3-month-old izack garcia was in a car with his parents last month when he was struck by a bullet in east palo alto. police say the norteno gang members opened fire on the car mistakenly believing it was carrying members of the rival serenos. today's meeting in east palo alto aims to coordinate information on the two gangs to

hold them responsible for the death. oakland police chief batts plans to announce upcoming reorganization to enhance public service. the city will rehire 22 of the 80 police officers it laid off last year. this morning the police asks bart riders to come forward with video of a deadly bart shooting. according to bart's deputy police chief, cameras did catch a partial view of sunday night's shooting at the civic center station. bart says the man was drunk and acting agressively carrying a broken bottle and knife. one of two officers initially on the scene was carrying a taser. but he didn't use it. san francisco police are searching for a brazen art thief who struck during broad daylight in union square. a well-dressed man walked into

the weinstein gallery on geary yesterday morning and snatched a sketch by pablo picasso right off the wall. then he took off in a taxicab. his work is 1965 -- that is called [ speaking french ] it's only the size of a piece of paper but it's worth $200,000. the gallery says it might be difficult to sell in case people know it's stolen but hope the thief doesn't destroy it. slugger's bat goes flying injuring three fans during last night's giants fan. one woman was hospitalized with a head injury. >> oh!! look out. he lose his bat. >> that hurt. giants slugger pablo sandoval lost the bat in the 1st inning last night which sailed towards the fans above the padre's dugout. one man hit in the eye brown, another in the shin. a woman was taken to the

hospital. some shaking south of the bay area last night. a 3.8 earthquake struck south of hollister at 12:18 this morning. within five minutes there were two more quakes, 2.7 and a 2.4. they were felt in the central coast area but no damage is reported. let get a quick check of traffic and weather this morning at 4:37. lawrence? >> hey, guys. things cooling down a pit around the bay area. it will stay hot inland but i think we're done with those triple digits for now. you will notice more low clouds and fog gathered along the coastline, the sea breeze beginning to pick up. some patchy fog compressed near the surface so it's dense at the coastline once again. temperatures out at the beaches into the 50s right now. you get inland still very, very mild. 67 degrees in livermore right now, 56 in concord so warmer today than yesterday this morning. but by the afternoon it won't be hot as yesterday. 96 livermore, 94 concord. you're going to see about 90 and sunny in san jose but a

very comfortable 63 degrees in pacifica. much cooler weather is in the works as high pressure gets out of the way. the trough begins to dive in and those temperatures are going to take a nosedive especially toward the weekend. we are going to see more low clouds and fog sweeping onshore. that slow burnoff and boy by this next weekend we're talking about temperatures in the 50s at the coast, maybe some 80s and sunshine still showing up in the valleys. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. i saw that fog coming into work this morning. even in san francisco, yeah. let's go out live to san jose. we have our steady camera shot right here near the mckee exit. headlights are moving northbound. so far, so good. let's go elsewhere across the bay area. fog an issue this morning. if you are crossing the golden gate bridge, this is what it looks like in marin. slow ride on the deck especially closer into the city

investigators. the jury did not speak afterwards but one of the alternates did. >> i think i can say this for all 17 of us. there was some type of horrific accident. the family knows a lot more than what came out in the trial. but they didn't prove that there was a murder. >> she will be sentenced tomorrow and she could walk free tomorrow. she faces up to four years in prison but legal experts say it will probably be much less with time already served. and an overwhelming majority of californians were surprised by and disagree with the casey anthony verdict. an exclusive eyewitness news poll finds that 77% disagree with the verdict, 72% were surprised by the decision, and 75% believe anthony did kill her daughter. those are some hefty numbers there. this afternoon in boston, james "whitey" bulger is scheduled to enter a plea to 19 murder charges. the 81-year-old former mob boss

teach gay history is now on the way to governor brown's desk. this morning the "l.a. times" is reporting the bill would make the state the first in the union to require history classes and textbooks to include the contributions of gay and lesbians. democrats in the state assembly passed sb48 yesterday in a divided vote along party lines. >> we used to deny this education about jews, about religious minorities, we used to do it with african- americans. >> i voted against it because its unnecessary. we're sexualizing education that's very inappropriate particularly in the early elementary years. >> the bill does allow local school boards to decide how to implement the lesson plans. governor brown has 12 days to sign or veto the measure. no relief for california college students. the cal state university system is considering yet another tuition hike. cal state's chancellor is calling for another 12% increase or $588 a year to take

effect this fall. that's on top of a 10% increase already approved to offset a major reduction in csu funding from the state. university of california regents face similar decision next week. get ready to see your friends up close and very personal on facebook today. rumor has it the website will launch an in-browser video chatting feature all powered by skype. last week's ceo mark zuckerberg said the company will launch something awesome. tech gurus also speculate it could be a streaming music service or an app for apple's ipad. stay tuned. big boost for twitter after a new round of fundraising. the latest valuation for the san francisco company puts it at a hefty $7 billion. that's almost double the last figure of $3.7 billion from just seven years ago. twitter is hoping their recently launched ad system will bring even more cash for that company. it is now 4:45. time to get moving.

just checked p g and e's website....it says about 4-thousand customers are thousands of morgan hill resident are still without power this morning. and we just check pg&e's website. it says about 4,000 customers are still in the dark. the outage map shows there are about 6 outages affecting homes and businesses. power went out yesterday afternoon. there is word it could be back up by 5 a.m. and we're waiting to hear back right now from pg&e. we'll keep you posted. a 6-year-old capitola boy is recovering after fireworks hit him in the face. the family was celebrating the 4th of july on east cliff drive near capitola. the boy's parents had to call 911 when started screaming that his face was burning. >> it hurt my eardrums and it like i heard eee. >> that poor little guy. the fireworks missed the boy's eye and facial nerve. it was caused by an illegal firework. the santa cruz county sheriff investigating. his world did not end may

21 so oakland radio preacher harold camping is going into rehab after suffering a stroke in june. his daughter confirms he has recently moved from the hospital to a nursing home to continue his recovery. it is not clear whether the 89- year-old camping will return to his radio show. he now expects the end of the world to come, by the way, october 21. >> all right. we're hoping he's wrong again. tomorrow president obama is going to meet with congressional leaders to discuss raising the nation's debt limit. he said there's been progress but more work needs to be done. if congress doesn't raise the ceiling by august 2, the treasury department says the u.s. will default on its bills potentially throwing financial markets into turmoil. this morning, president obama is going to take questions on jobs and the economy on his first twitter town hall meeting complete with a tweet-up. you can post questions for him before and during the event. it starts at 11 a.m. you have to keep your questions

to 140 characters, the limit. >> just getting up? temperatures beginning to cool down. still going to be hot around many of the inland spots today but if you are heading out the door, you will notice some of the patchy fog a little more of a sea breeze developing, dense fog at the coast, some of that fog sneaking inside the bay still clear and very mild temperatures showing up in some of the valleys. by the afternoon, sunshine and still going to be hot in places inland well into the 90s in some of the interior valleys. inside the bay 60s and 70s. coastline lingering clouds and cool temperatures into the 60s. high pressure weakening. more low clouds and fog trying to develop along the coast. a little subtropical moisture left over from tropical storm arlene rotating into california. watch out for the possibility of thunderstorms in the high country, here in the bay area just passing clouds. slow cooling trend in effect as high pressure sliding east. eventually it will go toward

california. that will cool down the temperatures quite drastically toward the weekend. numbers today, 92 and sunny in morgan hill. 84 mountain view. 85 union city. 60s at the coast. east bay numbers hot in spots. 97 degrees in brentwood. 96 antioch. 96 livermore. but you get inside the bay you will feel the sea breeze a little more about 74 degrees in oakland and 57 in alameda. 60s coastside. 80s inland, 95 fairfield. but the trend is downward over the next few days as high pressure is going to weaken. more of the sea breeze kicking in, more low clouds and fog as we head in toward the weekend and those temperatures cooling off. highs over the weekend probably only in the 80s in the warmest spots. 50s at the coastline. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you. we have a new camera out by the peninsula showing us traffic i guess near sfo.

this is 101. headlights i believe are moving northbound. you can see that everything looks freight right now in either treks so if you have an early-morning flight to catch over at the airport, you should have no trouble getting there but watch out for some fog. thanks, greg, for that camera shot there. fog is an issue this morning across some portions of the bay area including a picture of the golden gate bridge. we'll show you that in just a minute. so mass transit is a food option. bart has 30 trains on time. bart, ace, muni metro and caltrain all on time. thick fog especially across the golden gate bridge. visibility definitely an issue. they have not done the lane change yet. overnight roadwork continuing across on stretches including here in the south bay. 880 both directions between 280 and old bayshore highway various lanes blocked for at least another hour close to 6:00 when they will reason lanes there. the nimitz closer towards oakland, 880 near the coliseum

but a study done at uscs found mortality rates went up 10% in july especially in areas with teaching hospitals. this is about the time many new doctors enter the residency programs. critics argue that residents did not have as much supervision in the early years covered by the study. so stay well in july i guess. too much city can increase a woman's chances of a blood clot according to the british medical journal. the beneficiary study the leisure time habits of nurses in the united states over 18 years. the study suggests that a lot of sitting can increase risk of heart disease and hypertension. we sit a lot. maybe we should stand. >> i like the thought of not going to the hospital ever though. avoid it always. if you can. a pet shop that's been a san jose institution for 6 decades is in danger of closing. which is really sad. i had a chance to visit this

place when they took in some rats. andy's pet shop was forced to move from alameda. a new location notre dame in downtown is not as visible that combined with the recession and competition from big box pet stores is making it stuff for andy's to stay afloat. >> the rent's due today. i don't have it. so scary kind of situation to be in. >> in recent years, andy's has evolved from a traditional pet shop to an animal rescue center. it recently made news about rescuing hundreds of rats from a hoarder. she is trying to find a corporate sponsor to spend about $6,000 a month for one year. that's a big chunk of change. frogs croak and some sing but it's not too often you hear a barking frog.
